
The Wazir Khan Mosque was build in Mughal Era in 17 century, it is located in Lahore, Pakistan. At that time Mughal Emperor was Shah Jahan (Mirza Shahab-ud-Din Muhammad Khurram), construction started in 1634 and it took seven years to complete, under the super vision Governor of Lahore (ILUM-UD-DIN ANSARI) till Governor till 1639, He was also known as Nawab Wazir Khan. Mosque is few miles away from Lahore Fort, this mosque has more importance because its official place for the Emperor’s Friday Prayers.

This Wazir Khan Mosque land in rectangular forms, covers (282.7×165.4 feet).

Main outer courtyard consist of four big Minars. Its heights about 107 feet. It consist of two level upper and lower level, lower level consist of ablution tank. Entire floor made up of small red bricks.


Main prayer hall consist of four small domes and one large dome.

Mosque’s walls are completely fill with detail art work of (kashi kaari tile Mosaic), fresco painting, stone (lime plaster), vivid color, geometrical patterns, floral design has used for decoration on both interior and exterior walls of mosque.

Inner courtyard consist of 28 hujras and two pavilion facing each other across its width.

It was such a good expertise for me see this ancient time mosque and get knowledge about history of Mughal Era, it is as same as it was, I was amazed to see art work which is done on mosque’s wall. Now this mosque has cover outside with homes, shops and small market and it is also come under the heritage site of inner walled city of Lahore. Near this mosque it has well which is now not in use but still exists.
